Day 22 at MAC

Fairly uneventful - though Her Highness was being very defiant this morning. She absolutely refused to open her mouth for peas during one session, but she lost that battle after realizing her awesome therapist was going to sit there with the spoon until she took it. :)

They went down from chopped to ground texture yesterday to see if they could get her to swallow faster, and today they resorted to bringing out a toy for reinforcement of swallowing. Her therapist wasn't sure if it was the ground texture or the toy that was encouraging faster swallows, so tomorrow they will go back to chopped and reinforce her with the toy, and then at her third session they'll take the toy away and see what happens. She enjoyed having it to play with, but it's very hard to find something reinforcing enough to make Ruthie do something she doesn't really want to do. Taking things away doesn't matter to her - she'll just go find something else to play with. She always has. So tomorrow will be interesting. :)

24 days til home.....

  1. Toddler Barron would wail like he'd been abandoned if something was taken away, but Toddler Jasmine was more like Ruthie, more of a "so what? there's plenty more to play with around here" kind of attitude.

I hope Ruthie has a good day chewing tomorrow. :-)
