We made it through our first week and we (somehow) made it through our first weekend without the structure of the program. We're definitely going to have to find (cheap) things to do on the weekends.
Today's sessions went great! For the first time, Ruthie went with both therapists on all four sessions without crying at the separation. They attempted the larger maroon spoon during her second session, but her dainty little mouth is just too small for it. Still, she did very well with her food intake.
Tomorrow they will probe her drinking skills. She'll use a little cut-out 2oz cup and I'm not sure what they're going to have her drink yet. She loves water, but obviously water does not have calories, and I highly doubt she'll drink the Elecare since it smells and tastes like a sewer.
We are finding that she is more and more interested in our foods during evening meals and snacks, and will ask for what is on our plates. Not only is she eating it - taking independent bites and chewing it with her mouth closed (most of the time) but she is swallowing the majority of it. She never used to do this and they are still a ways from targeting this, but it is exciting to see her WANT to eat.
And on to the most important part of the day - the total grams! What do you think it was? Last Friday's total was 339 and I told myself I would be happy if she matched that.
She didn't match it.
She WAAAYYYY exceeded it with a grand gram total of 405! That's almost 1/2 of her daily need!! Go, Ruthie, go Ruthie!!!
